My creative self
Welcome to Phyrne Press, my online location for everything writing.
Here you will find info and links to my children’s picture books (published under the name A. Mallarkey).
You will also find occasionally scary, sometimes heartwarming, and always fun flash fiction – including the ongoing series The Adventures of Captain Bear.
I love to host 1920s Murder Mystery Weekends at my B&B in New Brunswick, Canada, which involves creating characters and scenarios while also designing and making clothes from that era, some of which are showcased here.
I sometimes work with authors to help them realize their vision for the cover of their book (some of these are showcased here).

Carol Ann McDevitt
While my career in tech included some creativity, these days writing and clothing design are my creative outlets. I’ve written and published four children’s books under the name A. Mallarkey and I write flash fiction, epic fantasy, and enjoy Writing Battles & other contests. I love creating 1920s murder mystery weekends at my beautiful Roaring 20’s Bed and Breakfast on the scenic
Saint John/Wolastoq River.
My Coton de Tulear Kilimanjaro (Kili) and I enjoy our beautiful home and yard just outside Fredericton, NB Canada. We like to hike, swim and eat treats.

I really liked the method of storytelling here, and I haven’t seen anything quite like it before.
– NYC Midnight judge, 2026
I am a fan of brutalist architecture and design – where everything has a function… and you have excelled at that in spades.
– Writing Battle “Panda”
My favorite part of your story was definitely the humor—you have such a distinctive, engaging voice on the page!
